NTPC signs MoU with Himachal Pradesh government

NTPC Limited has signed an MoU with the Himachal Pradesh government to set up two hydroelectric projects (HEPs) totalling 520 MW in the state. The two projects, 400 MW Seli and 120 MW Miyar, will be located in the Chenab basin in Lahaul and Spiti district. While both the Seli HEP and the Miyar HEP are run-of-the-river projects, the one at Miyar is without the pondage scheme. NTPC already operates the 800 MW Koldam HEP in the state, which accounts for nearly 28 per cent of the power generation of Himachal Pradesh. In a separate development, NTPC commissioned Unit 1 of the 800 MW Lara Super Thermal Power Station in Chhattisgarh on September 30, 2019. This has increased NTPC’s and the NTPC Group’s commercial capacity to 47,325 MW and 55,786 MW respectively.
