Vietnam’s MOIT and AES Group signs MoU for 2,200 MW gas-based project

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), and the US-based AES Group have signed an MoU for implementing the 2,200 MW Son My 2 combined cycle gas turbine project in Hanoi, Vietnam. The project entails an estimated investment of $1.7 billion and is expected to start commercial operations in 2022. In August 2019, the Vietnamese government approved the AES Group’s proposal to build a $1.4 billion LNG terminal near the power plant in the southern central province of Binh Thuan.
