CESC Limited has shelved plans to demerge its generation and distribution businesses into CESC (distribution company) and Haldia Energy (generation company). Reportedly, the West Bengal Electricity Regulatory Commission flagged concerns over asset distribution between the two firms in the case of a demerger and questioned if the demerged entities will receive any favour from the parent company, CESC. The power regulator also refused approval to CESC’s planned PPA in case of a split. CESC will make the necessary application to the Kolkata bench of the National Company Law Tribunal in this regard.
