The Uttar Pradesh government has started installing prepaid smart meters for electricity consumers. Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) will begin the installation exercise from the residences of officials, elected representatives and ministers. The utility will, in the first phase, install 4G prepaid smart meters on power connections in 47 identified towns in the state with the help of Energy Efficiency Services Limited.
