Thai government to extend deadline for 14 renewable power plants

Thailand’s government has approved the Energy Regulatory Commission’s (ERC) proposal to extend the deadline for 14 renewable power plants, aggregating 300 MW, to start commercial operations. The projects are based on waste-to-energy, biogas and biomass resources. The operators have been impacted by local protesters opposing the development of power projects in their communities. For some projects, construction is yet to begin, owing to funding crunch and infeasible technologies.
