Japan-based Kyushu Electric explores microgrids to expand energy access

Japan-based Kyushu Electric (KE) plans to invest in and provide technical assistance to the Philippines-based PowerSource Group to supply electricity to the country’s remote islands using microgrids. KE plans to install microgrids in the mountainous regions of Kyushu, in southwestern Japan as well as in certain un-electrified areas of Southeast Asia and Africa. At present, PowerSource provides 100 kWh-2,100 kWh of diesel-generated electricity to six sites on and around the Palawan Island and to one site near the Cebu Island in the Philippines.
