MNRE issues clarification on customs duty on imported solar cells and modules

The MNRE has clarified that the basic customs duty on imported solar cells and modules will be zero. The clarification follows the proposal to impose a basic customs duty of 20 per cent on solar equipment in the Union Budget 2020-21. In a separate development, the MNRE has issued a clarification on the approved list of models and manufacturers of solar photovoltaic cells while reducing the application fees per model of modules of less than 50 MW to Rs 2,500. Earlier, any application was priced at Rs 5,000 per module, irrespective of capacity.
