BERC reduces retail power supply tariffs

The Bihar Electricity Regulatory Commission (BERC) has reduced power tariff by 10 paise per unit across all categories of consumers. The state-owned discoms sought to keep energy charges constant while proposing a minor hike in fixed charges for the next fiscal. The commission has also proposed to introduce metered connections for below poverty line consumers. The new tariff rates will be applicable across the state from April 1, 2020. Notably, the BERC has reduced the power tariffs for the first time in 15 years.
