MNRE issues notice regarding force majeure for RE projects amid COVID-19 crisis

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has issued a notice stating that time extension will be provided to renewable energy projects owing to the disruption of supply chains due to the spread of the coronavirus in China and other countries. The ministry has stated that supply chain disruption due to the pandemic will be treated as a case of natural calamity and the force majeure clause in contracts may be invoked. All project developers seeking extension owing to the disruption are required to write an application to the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI)/NTPC Limited/other implementing agencies along with documentary evidence.
