MoEFCC issues Draft Battery Waste Management Rules, 2020

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has issued the Draft Battery Waste Management Rules, 2020 which will supersede the Batteries (Management and Handling) Rules, 2001. The uptake of batteries is expected to increase with the growing fleet of electric vehicles (EVs) as well as with the growth of renewable energy plants linked with battery storage. In this context, proper disposal of used batteries is crucial for the environment. The ministry has sought comments/suggestions on the draft rules by April 20, 2020.
