PSPCL shuts down thermal unit due to low demand

Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has shut all units of state-owned and private thermal power plants in the state owing to lack of demand. The state is witnessing diminished economic activity as industries have stopped or restricted manufacturing owing to the Covid-19 epidemic. Further, recent rainfall and prolonged winter season have also affected electricity demand in the state. On March 11, 2020, thermal power plants in the state were shut due to limited demand, which was met mainly by hydro and solar power.
