Chhattisgarh government requests centre to acknowledge CSPDCL as an IPP

The state government of Chhattisgarh has requested the union power minister to acknowledge Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Limited (CSPDCL) as an independent power producer (IPP) for enabling the payment of Rs 20 billion pending by the Telangana state power companies.

Reportedly, Telangana is being continuously supplied power under a long-term PPA executed between CSPDCL and Telangana state power companies on September 22, 2015 from the 1,000 MW capacity Atal Bihari Thermal Power Project located in Chhattisgarh. Due to the pending payments of over Rs 20 billion as on March 31, 2020, CSPDCL is reportedly going through financial stress. With the inclusion of CSPDCL in the IPP category, Telangana State Power Company would be eligible for a loan for payment of outstanding dues under the government’s stimulus package.
