NTPC will grant a Rs 13.63 billion discount to discoms on fixed charges during the lockdown period of 2020-21. The NTPC board has also agreed that the collection of Rs 20.64 billion fixed charges from discoms before the end of the lockdown, enforced to curb the coronavirus pandemic, will be postponed
The payments would be collected in three consecutive instalments, without interest.
Within the power purchase arrangement, the fixed charges are paid by discoms for the costs of setting up of a power station. In May 2020, the government has announced a liquidity infusion of Rs 900 billion through REC and Power Finance Corporation into crisis-hit discoms.
