Tangedco obtains nod to procure 500 MW of power under Pilot Scheme II

The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) has obtained approval from the state electricity regulator to procure round-the-clock power of up to 500 MW under the pilot scheme II of the power ministry for a period of three years. The electricity will be procured at Rs 3.26 units per unit, excluding transmission charges and the trader margin.

In its petition before the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission, Tangedco has indicated a total power availability of 14,783 MW, out of which 4,320 MW is from its own thermal power generation stations, 6,151 MW as share from central power generation stations, 2,830 MW from long-term agreements and 550 MW from medium-term agreements and 516 MW from its gas based power plant. It has also indicated a deficit of 2,396 MW for FY 2020-21, 1,506 MW for FY 2021-22 and 111 MW for FY 2022-23 respectively.
