Trade unions plan strike against commercial mining

Trade unions of Coal India Limited (CIL) and Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) are planning to undertake a three day-strike from July 2 to July 4 in order to press for withdrawal of the commercial mining plans of the central government.

The notice for the strike by five trade unions, representing 90 per cent of the company’s 280,000 workers, will be served on June 18, when the centre plans to initiate the coal block auction process for commercial mining. The central government had earlier announced plans to offer 50 coal blocks to the private sector for commercial mining.
