Mahanadi Coalfields plans to invest Rs 600 billion in Odisha

Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) plans to invest Rs 600 billion in Odisha, with Rs 310 billion to be invested on mining and social infrastructure development by 2023-24.

MCL plans to raise its coal production capacity to 300 million tonnes. It plans to invest in land acquisition for three new MDO (mine, develop and operation) projects, namely Siarmal (50 million tonnes per annum) in Ib Valley, Subhadra (25 mtpa) and Balbhadra North (10 mtpa) in Talcher coalfields, as well as the expansion of existing projects. The company would also invest in the procurement of heavy earthmoving machinery. MCL also plans to set up a 1,600 MW (2×800 MW) supercritical thermal power plant with a projected investment of Rs 113.63 billion in the Sundergarh district.
