Coal India’s power sector dues crosses Rs 180 billion

The outstanding payments owed to Coal India Limited (CIL) by power utilities, reportedly, increased by Rs 42.50 billion to Rs 186.24 billion in April and May 2020.

Despite the lockdown, the company had continued supplies to defaulting state firms as a relief measure. The rise in dues is attributed to less receipt of payments from state gencos, NTPC and SAIL due to subdued demand and liquidity crisis, triggered mainly by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown.
