The Supreme Court refuses a request from electricity companies to extend the emission deadline

Supreme Court of India, has rejected the power producers’ request to extend the deadline for installing emission reduction equipment by two years to 2024.

The Association of Power Producers (APP) had filed the petition seeking the extension. The court declined to provide any blanket extension. However, as per APP, each project would need to be decided individually based on project specific facts. TPP operators have cited challenges related to funding and technical difficulties in meeting the 2022 deadline.
