The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry’s (FICCI) power committee has sought the central government’s intervention and support for the installation of flue gas desulphurization (FGD) in operational independent power plants (IPPs) and captive power plants (CPPs).
In December 2015, the Ministry of environment, forest & climate change (MoEF&CC) issued a notification wherein thermal power plants are required to meet new emission standards for sulphur dioxide (SOx) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) progressively by December 2022. For captive power plants (CPPs), the deadline was June 30, 2020. The industry body has requested for extension in timelines in meeting the norms and exemption from adverse action for non-compliance. The industry body has also sought setting up of a government committee to review the timelines for FGD implementation, assessment of the requirement and the existing bottlenecks.
