The Puducherry legislative assembly has passed a resolution that the power distribution sector in the union territory (UT) will not be privatised.
Reportedly, in the assembly session held, a resolution was passed unanimously on July 22, 2020 against the decision of the central government to privatise the electricity power sector. The finance minister had announced the centre’s decision to privatise the power distribution companies in the UTs as part of the reforms under the economic stimulus package.
