West Bengal takes Rs 10.22 billion transition loan from central government

West Bengal has taken a transition loan worth Rs 10.22 billion from the centre to help the state discom under the Rs 900 billion Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan package for stressed discoms.

The loan is expected to help West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) clear pending dues. The discom has been facing financial challenges with minuscule collections in April and May resulting in an over Rs 20 billion shortfall. According to reports, the 10 year loan to the West Bengal government has a three-year moratorium period and is repayable in 84 EMIs.
