Coal ministry in talks with environment ministry for faster clearances

The coal ministry is in talks with the environment ministry for reducing the time required for obtaining forest clearance for operationalisation of blocks.

In order to get a coal mine operational, the allottee has to seek permission from various agencies, which is time consuming and takes around five years for a block to start production. In June, the auction process for coal blocks for commercial mining was launched in a move that to open up the coal sector for private players.
