BEE asks to speed up ECBC implementation

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has asked the Andhra Pradesh’s energy department to expedite implementation of the mandatory Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) by issuing fresh orders on the updated ECBC-2017 code.

According to a BEE estimate, there can be a 50 per cent reduction in energy consumption if ECBC-2017 is effectively implemented within the next decade. Such adoption would translate to energy savings of around 300 billion units by 2030 and a peak demand reduction of over 15GW in a year, equivalent to savings of Rs 350 billion and carbon dioxide reduction of 250 million tonnes.
