Powergrid commissions Pole-1 of the Raigarh Pugalur HVDC Link

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (Powergrid) has commissioned Pole-1 of the Raigarh-Pugalur HVDC transmission system, that comprises the 800 kV Raigarh HVDC terminal station (Chhattisgarh) and Pugalur HVDC Terminal Station (Tamil Nadu) along with a 1,765 km long ±800 kV, HVDC line from Raigarh to Pugalur and two HVAC lines in Tamil Nadu.

Pole-I with a 1,500 MW capacity is the first leg of the 6,000 MW Raigarh–Pugalur HVDC project, which is envisaged for evacuation of bulk power generated by independent power producers in Chhattisgarh using the state-of-the-art HVDC technology. Implementation of balance portion of this project is in advanced stages and will be integrated in a phased manner during 2020-21.
