As per data from the Ministry of Power, loans totaling Rs 705.90 billion have been sanctioned so far (till September 16, 2020) to discoms, out of the Rs 900 billion liquidity package announced by the central government.
Of the sanctioned amount, Rs 247.42 billion has been disbursed till September 16, 2020. The package was announced by Union Finance Ministry in May 2020 as part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat economic package, through Power Finance Corporation (PFC) and Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) to enable the sector to maintain power supplies, since cash flows had plummeted during the lockdown imposed to contain the spread of COVID-19.
