DABS commences Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan transmission line project

The state-owned power utility, Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) of Afghanistan, has commenced works on the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) transmission line project.

The TAP power interconnection project is one of the most important regional energy projects and will enable power trade among the three countries, for which 750 km of 500 kV transmission line will be laid. The first phase of the project will include the laying of power lines from Mary of Turkmen city to the Herat province in Afghanistan. In the second phase, the power line will be extended to Pakistan. The construction of the line is planned to be completed by 2021. Once completed, the aforementioned project will be able to transfer up to 4,000 MW of power from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan and Pakistan.
