The Uttar Pradesh government has reportedly decided to withdraw privatisation plans for the state’s discoms. The state government had earlier announced plans to privatise Purvanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Limited (PuVVNL). The move comes after a meeting with protesting employee unions which began an indefinite strike.
As per an agreement signed by Uttar Pradesh power minister and finance minister, the state government would take back the privatisation proposal of Purvanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Limited, which supplies electricity to 8 million consumers including Varanasi, Gorakhpur and Prayagraj districts. Further, as per the agreement, the state discoms will strive to improve power supply and operational efficiencies within the existing framework. Also, any privatisation proposal in future will be made after taking the employees and authorities in confidence.
