Mumbai faces widespread power outage

Large parts of Mumbai and its suburbs faced a major power outage in the city on October 12, 2020 owing to failure of certain transmission elements.

Reportedly, a technical failure in one of the circuits of a 400 kV line of the Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (Mahatransco) at the Kalwa-Padha GIS Centre had caused the power failure. One of the circuits, 400 kV Kalwa – Padgha Circuit 2 suddenly tripped, further tripping the 400 kV Kalwa – Kharghar due to overload while the Padgha Circuit 1 was under outage and 400 kV Kalwa – Talegaon was under shutdown. Three discoms in the city – Tata Power, BEST Electricity and Adani Electricity Mumbai Limited have experienced power cuts in their respective areas. The power outage has brought the suburban rail network in Mumbai to a temporary halt. (State sector)
