The installation of about 20,000 smart meters is expected to begin in Jammu and Srinagar from November 2020 onwards to bring transparency in billing and reduce power losses.
The first phase would start from November 15, with about 20,000 meters to be installed in the twin cities and the process would continue in a phased manner. Over 200,000 meters have been sanctioned under Prime Minister Development Programme (PMDP),. The meters will be read remotely in data centre at Srinagar and data recovery centre at Jammu through communication channels.
