MSEDCL in financial spot over power dues

Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) is in financial trouble because of the mounting power bill arrears of consumers, especially from residential, commercial and small industrial users.

In many parts of the state, the power bill dues from consumers have doubled. The company has continued to purchase power to cater to the increasing demand during the lockdown but the outstanding dues from consumers had put it in a financial fix. Almost 85 per cent of the bill revenue is used to purchase power. The bill arrears have went up by Rs 11.34 billion during March to September 2020.
