NTPC collaborates with cement firms to supply fly ash by rail

NTPC Limited has started collaborating with cement manufacturers to supply fly ash through the rail network to achieve 100 per cent utilisation of by-products produced during power generation.

NTPC is leveraging railways’ network to transport fly ash in an economical and environment-friendly manner across the country, which will help prevent the by-product from becoming a environmental hazard in the dumps. As part of this initiative, NTPC’s Mouda thermal power plant in Maharashtra has transported 3,186 metric tonnes of dry fly ash in 51 BCCW wagons to Rajshree Cement (a unit of Ultratech Cement) at Kalburgi in Karnataka. During 2019-20, almost 2.35 mt of fly ash was utilised for various productive purposes by NTPC Mouda.
