Bangladesh’s PGCB seeks addition funding and extended timeline for 400 kV project

Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Limited (PGCB) has recently sought additional funding and an extended timeline for a revised 400 kV HV grid line project. .

The original project approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC), entailed the construction of the 164.6 km-long, 400 kV Aminbazar─Mawa─Mongla line. The scope of the project was later revised to comprise a 75 km-long, 400 kV transmission line from Aminbazar to Gopalganj, and another 96.93- km-long line from Gopalganj to Mongla. Also, a substation will be constructed in Gopalganj for evacuating power from the Rooppur power station and the proposed 1320 MW Payra power plant. To cover the additional work and expenses associated with the revised transmission project, PGCB has sought funding of BDT25.5 billion, in comparison to the original estimate of BDT13.56 billion. In addition, the company has also applied for a further six-month extension to the already extended deadline of June 2021.
