Maharashtra rules out relief on inflated electricity bills for consumers

Maharashtra government has ruled out any relief for the consumers claiming that the consumers would have to pay the bills as per meter readings.

The development came as the Maharashtra State Electricty Distribution Company (MSEDCL) had issued orders to recover pending power bills. MSEDCL has been facing losses worth 690 billion and it has no fiscal legroom to take on more debt in order to give relief. Further, 69 per cent of the power bills have already been recovered and the state has given other relief such as bills to be paid in installments.
