Government reviews Ghatampur thermal plant project progress in UP

The central government reviewed the progress of the Ghatampur coal-based supercritical thermal power plant of Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Limited (NUPPL). The proposed 1,980 MW (three 660 MW units) project with an estimated cost of Rs 170 billion is being set up in Ghatampur in Kanpur Nagar district in Uttar Pradesh. …

The plant is a joint venture of NLC India Limited (NLCIL) and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL), with a 51:49 equity participation. The union government accorded approval to the project in July 2016. However, the Covid-19 pandemic affected the progress of the project. The NUPPL administration has launched efforts to expedite the project by increasing manpower to ensure completion of the project on schedule.
