ADB approves $ 200 million additional loan for Bangladesh’s power project

ADB and the government of Bangladesh have recently signed an agreement for $200 million in additional loans, including $130 million of concessional loans, for augmenting access to efficient and reliable electricity supply in rural areas of Bangladesh, by strengthening the transmission and distribution networks. …

The additional loan has been granted under the ongoing “Bangladesh Power System Enhancement and Efficiency Improvement Project”, over and above the existing funding of USD616 million allocated to the project. The additional funding will be used to further improve the transmission network, along with the installation of 900 km of 33 kV and 3,000 km of 11 kV lines in the rural areas of the country. The enhancement works are expected to power about 150,000 households.
