Powergrid commissioned this project under the North Eastern Region Strengthening Scheme-VI. The scope of project includes installation of 2x 400/220 kV, 500MVA transformers and 2x 420 kV, 125 MVAR bus reactor along with other associated bays at Mariani. In the first phase, one 400/220kV 500MVA transformer and one 420 kV, 125 MVAR bus reactor and associated bays in the substation have been commissioned matching with the commissioning of the 400 kV D/C new Kohima-Mariani transmission line (implemented under tariff based competitive bidding mode). This substation is the first ever 400 kV substation in upper Assam and will serve as a key station for the growth of power in upper Assam, as well as enhance reliability of southern part of the NER grid.
