UJALA and SLNP complete 6 years

Launched in January 2015, the Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All (UJALA) and Street Lighting National Programme (SLNP) have completed six years. Both programmes are being implemented by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL)….

Under SLNP, EESL has installed 11.4 million LED streetlights which has resulted in energy savings of 7.67 BUs per year. The scheme has resulted in annual monetary savings of Rs 52.10 billion in electricity bills of municipalities. Under UJALA, EESL has distributed over 366.9 million LED bulbs across India which has resulted in energy savings of 47.65 BUs per year with avoided peak demand of 9,540 MW and greenhouse gas emission reduction of 38.59 million tonne CO2 per year. Going forward, EESL expects SLNP to enable investments to the tune of Rs 80 billion over the next 4-5 years. It is expected that more than 30 million LED streetlights would be retrofitted or installed by EESL.
