Chinese CSG operationalises CNY3.71 billion project

Chinese grid developer, China Southern Power Grid (CSG), has operationalised a ±800 kV multi-terminal ultra-high voltage (UHV) flexible DC project, transmitting power from the Wudongde hydropower station in Yunnan Province to the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Guangdong Province in Southwest China. ..

The ±800 kV Wudongde transmission project starts from the Kunbei convertor station in Yunnan and passes Guizhou, Guangxi and Guangdong, meandering 1,452 km through mountains and across rivers. The CNY3.71 billion project is expected to transmit 33 billion kWh of power annually, equalling the annual power consumption of Hainan Province. It will improve hydropower utilisation in Yunnan and supply power for economic development in the Guangdong─Hong Kong─Macao Greater Bay Area.
