The 330 kV interconnection line is expected to increase electricity access in Northern Ghana and export power to Burkina Faso. The grant will be utilised for the upgradation of 18-km-long, 161 kV transmission line between the Ahodwo and Anwomaso substations in Ghana, and will also support power transfer capacity from a 330 kV line from Kumasi (Ghana) to Bolgatanga (Burkina Faso). The 330 kV interconnection project was initially financed with a $174 million loan from AFD to GRIDCo and a technical assistance grant of EUR4.8 million from the EU.
