Discoms’ outstanding dues to power producers rise by 24 per cent toover Rs 1,360billion

The outstanding dues of discoms to power producers have risen by 24 per cent to Rs 1,369.66billion in December 2021 compared to Rs 1,106.6 billion in December 2019, according to the PRAAPTI portal.

The total overdue amount was not cleared after a grace period of 45 days offered by generators. It stood at Rs 1274.98 billion as against Rs 978.35 billion in the year-ago period. The major portion of the dues were owed by the discoms in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Haryana, and Tamil Nadu. The overdue amount to NTPC Limited stood at Rs 179.46 billion, Damodar Valley Corporation at Rs 66.82 billion, NLC India at Rs 61.23 billion, NHPC Limited at Rs 31.41 billion, and THDC India at Rs 20.22 billion.
