Power plant with 1.44 GW begins operations in Malaysia.

Southern Power Generation’s combined cycle gas power plant with 1.44 GW capacity has commenced operations in February 2021 at Johor in Malaysia.

The power plant has been constructed by Taiwanese global engineering services firm CTCI under an engineering, construction and procurement contract. It has the potential to power nearly 3 million homes in Malaysia. The technological specifications include two single-shaft generating blocks, each equipped with power generation technology giant GE’s 9HA.02 gas turbine. Other equipment pieces are the STF-D650 steam turbine, the W88 generator, and the Heat Recovery Steam Generator from GE. The management of this plant is done by GE’s Mark VIe integrated Plant Control System.
