JERC approves T&D loss trajectory in Chandigarh

The Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) has approved the transmission and distribution (T&D) loss trajectory for the first five financial years under the Chandigarh UT administration’s power department privatisation plan.

The firm which will be selected for power department privatisation in Chandigarh, would have to bring down T&D losses to 7.6 per cent in five years’ period. Also, the selected firm will reduce 0.4 per cent every year, starting from 9.2 per cent to 7.6 per cent by the end of the five-year period. In addition, the tariff will be determined on the basis of revenue billed and not on the basis of revenue collected. Recently, the Supreme Court had vacated the stay of the Punjab and Haryana high court, following which the UT administration has started the power privatisation process in Chandigarh again.
