India’s power demand recovery led by less industrialised states

Reportedly, the less industrialised states of Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab are leading the electricity demand recovery in the country since September 2020.

Power use in these states grew at over 10 per cent each compared with the previous year, both for the quarter and the six months ending on March 31, 2021. On the other hand, the more industrialised states such as Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat witnessed a decline in annual electricity usage during 2020-21.
