India’s power consumption increases by about 47 per cent in April 2021

In the first week of April 2021, the electricity consumption in India stood at 28.34 BUs, marking an increase of nearly 47 per cent over the same period, a year ago.

The peak power demand met during the first week of April 2021 was 181.05 GW, a 27 per cent increase over April 2020.  This increase can be attributed to recovery in power demand from industrial and commercial consumers. Besides, the high growth is also on account of base erosion last year because of the lockdown.
