J-Power cancels plans to build 1.2 GW coal power plant

Japan based J-Power has cancelled its plans to build a 1.2 GW coal-fired power plant in Yamaguchi in western Japan.

The company has decided to cancel the planbecause of the increasing capacity of renewable energy, and demand outlook in western Japan.  J-Power has instead planned to build a gasification facility at the no. 2 coal-fired power plant in its Matsushima station in Nagasaki, to improve efficiency and curb carbon emissions.
