ENGIE announces development of 2 GW RE portfolio in Chile by 2025

ENGIE has made an announcement that it will be developing 2 GW renewable energy (RE) portfolio in Chile by 2025, including 1 GW newly announced and 1 GW committed to at the end of 2019.

It has made a commitment to end coal-based power generation in the country by 2025.  It plans to close 0.8 GW of old coal units and convert 0.7 GW to gas or biomass-based power generation by 2025. It has also decided to produce green hydrogen in Chile, with three ongoing pilot projects. The plan would require an investment of 1.5 billion Euros by 2025. It is expected to enable ENGIE to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 80 per cent from its energy production activities in Chile by 2026.
