Chinese Sungrow to install BESS for Golomoti solar plant in Malawi

Chinese Sungrow Power Supply plans to install a battery energy storage system (BESS) for the 20 MWp Golomoti solar PV power plant being built in the Dedza district of Malawi.

Sungrow will install its medium voltage (MV) solution, a station, all-in-one power conversion system, a battery container and an energy management system (EMS). The electricity generated by the Golomoti plant will be sold to the state-owned Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) under a power purchase agreement (PPA). The power from the facility will be fed into Malawi’s national power grid via 132 kV transmission line. The BESS will ensure the availability and reliability of Malawi’s power supply through its capabilities in frequency control, voltage control, peak shaving and reactive power support.
