Government of Philippines to increase power capacity by 41,000 MW by 2031

The Government of Philippines has announced its plans to increase power generation capacity by up to 41,000 MW over the next 10 years. The development of 34,520 MW capacity of power plants have been discussed with PLN, and another 6,439 MW capacity of power plants are under evaluation.

PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) has presented the draft plans of its Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) for the period 2021-2030. The planned energy mix is to distributed as 52 per cent towards fossil fuel power plants and 48 per cent to RE based power plants. The Government of Philippines has planned to add 8,915 MW to the power grid by 2021, of which 4,688 MW will come from coal fired power plants and 3,467 MW will come from gas-fired power plants. Of the remaining, diesel power plants will provide 22 MW, while 737 MW will come from new and RE-based power plants.
