Power consumption in India falls by 10.4 per cent in May

The average daily consumption of electricity in India has decreased by 10.4 per cent in May 2021 over April 2021 due to lockdowns imposed by the states due to the pandemic.

However, the power consumption in India has witnessed a year-on-year (y-o-y) growth of 8.2 per cent in May 2021 at 110.47 BUs. The slow pace of recovery of industrial demand can be attributed to the second wave of the pandemic as well as the two cyclones which hit the east and west cost of the country resulting in power outages.
