PAT scheme results in mitigation of about 87 million tonnes of CO2 per year

Bureau of Energy Efficiency’s Perform Achieve and Trade (PAT) Scheme and Standards and Labeling (S&L) Program have considerably helped tosave energy and reduce carbon dioxide emission levels in recent years.

The PAT scheme targeted emissions reduction in 13 energy intensive sector (including thermal power plants) and it has resulted in energy savings of nearly 17 million tonnes of oil equivalent (MTOE) which means mitigation of about 87 million tonnes of carbon dioxide, per year by 2020. Similarly, the Standards and Labeling (S&L) Program thatcovers 28 appliances (as of March 2021) resulted into an estimated electricity savings of 56 BUs during 2020-21, worth more than Rs 300 billion. This initiative has helped reduce the carbon dioxide emissions by about 46 million tonnes per year.
